If you’re like most people, you probably rely on your smartphone or laptop to keep you connected. But what if something goes wrong? What if your battery dies and you can’t access your device? Well, according to some experts, disconnecting your battery may be the only way to reset your smartphone or laptop. “Basically, when a battery is disconnected from a device it will enter a low-power state and the device will start up again,” said Ryan Lawler, an expert on mobile security and privacy. “This is why many people turn off their devices by removing the battery when they’re not using them.” Lawler says that this low-power state is also how lost or stolen devices are usually found. “If someone finds a lost phone and tries to turn it on, it will likely just show the lock screen because the phone’s battery was removed,” he said. “The same thing happens with laptops – if someone steals your laptop and tries to turn it on, it will likely just show the login screen because the computer’s battery was removed.” So far there have been no reports of anyone being able to access data or passwords after disconnecting their batteries, but experts say that this could change in the future. For now, though, disconnecting your battery should be considered just one more way to protect yourself from losing data or passwords. ..
