R is a racing game for PlayStation 4 that was announced by Sony Interactive Entertainment America in February 2019. It is a collaboration between developer FromSoftware and racing game publisher Bandai Namco. The game is set in the world of the “Soulsborne” series, and revolves around using a variety of weapons to defeat enemies. The game was initially teased with the release of an image on February 14th, 2019 which showed protagonist Ryo Sakazaki wielding a sword and shield. The following day, an announcement was made that the game would be called “Soulsborne: Definitive Edition”. This new title would include all previously released content from the “Soulsborne” series as well as new content not found in any other versions of the game. On March 2nd, 2019, it was announced that Hidetaka Miyazaki, Director at FromSoftware and Co-Creator at Soulsborne had left Sony Interactive Entertainment America to work on his own studio called Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe. This change in leadership may have been due to Miyazaki’s dissatisfaction with how development on Soulsborne was proceeding. On March 3rd, 2019 it was announced that Hidetaka Miyazaki would be returning to Sony Interactive Entertainment America as President of PlayStation Europe.
