According to a recent study, Skyrim ranks as the best video game for mindfulness. The study, conducted by Mindfulness Research Center at University of Massachusetts Medical School, looked at the effects of video games on mindfulness and found that playing video games can improve attention and concentration. “Our research shows that playing video games can have positive effects on mindfulness,” said Dr. Christopher Germer, lead author of the study and an associate professor of psychiatry at UMass Medical School. “Video games can help people learn how to focus their attention and stay calm in stressful situations.” The study surveyed 48 adults who played different types of video games for an average of two hours a week. The participants were asked about their levels of mindfulness before playing the game, after playing the game, and again six months later. They also completed questionnaires measuring anxiety and depression symptoms. The results showed that those who had increased levels of mindfulness after playing the game had decreased levels of anxiety and depression six months later. “Mindfulness is about being present in the moment,” said Dr. Germer. “Playing video games can help people learn how to do that better." ..
