If you’re like most graphic designers, you probably use Illustrator to create logos, icons, and other graphics. One of the most powerful tools in Illustrator is the Type Area tool. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to use it to create custom typefaces. To start, open a new document in Illustrator and select the Type tool (T). Click in the middle of the document to activate the Type Area tool (A). Now, click and drag out a square area on the page. The Type Area tool will automatically resize as you drag it. When you release your mouse button, a type area will have been created. Next, type some text into your type area. You can use any font that’s installed on your computer. For example, if you want to create a logo with a sans-serif font, try using Arial or Helvetica. Once your text is in place, click on the Options bar at the top of the Type Area window and select Font Family from the list of options. This will open up a dialog box where you can choose which font family your text will be using (in our example, Arial). Now that your text has been set up with a font family, it’s time to add some formatting. To do this, click on the Text tab at the top of the Type Area window and select Formatting from the list of options. This will open up a dialog box where you can change various aspects of your text (such as line height and letter spacing). ..
