If you have multiple contacts on your Android device, it can be difficult to keep track of which one is the primary contact. To make this process easier, you can use the “Unlink” feature of the Android app. This feature will allow you to remove one or more of your contacts from the primary contact list.

Step 1: Open the People app

To begin with, you’ll need to open your contacts list . On most phones and tablets — including stock Android — it has a name like “People” or “Contacts.” Alternatively, you could go into an individual contact (like Nick or Gary) and then tap his/her profile picture in order to access a more complete list of their contacts. This is our recommended strategy if you  have  only one person whose link(s) you  wish  to  change  (due  to  Facebook’s  200  contacts per page  restrictions).

Step 2: Select a contact link

To begin with, you’ll want to select the contact link (the blue line) that links your two friends. His/her name will be at the top of both columns; select that row. If you’ve already chosen which account you wish to  unlink, then click Delete . Otherwise, notice that there are two Facebook accounts right now (we don’t have a Google+ one yet). There’s no harm in deleting  the  first  one  (unless your  friend  really  wants to be linked  with you on Facebook, or vice versa).

Step 3: Delete the link

Once you’ve selected a contact link (or multiple links), start by tapping the top-right three-dot menu. In this case, we’re going to choose Delete Link . It’s just like uninstalling an application from Android. Yes, it will remove all of these connections; now both of our accounts are unlinked on our phone. We can add them later if we so desire. If you are using  Facebook for authentication, then the People app might helpfully try to recover the connection for you  (despite  what  we’ve  done above).  If it does, then click Ignore .

Step 4: Identify your Google account

Now that you’ve  successfully unlinked two contacts on Android , go to one of them — in this case Gary — and again touch his/her contact photo. You’ll notice a new link at the bottom of their profile picture; it lets you view their Google+ profile. If you have more than one Google account enabled for your device, then there will be a drop-down menu where you can choose which one to go through.
