There are a few things you can do to separate letters in Illustrator to make it easier to work with. The first is to use the Line tool. This tool creates lines that run perpendicular to the paper, and it’s great for separating text from graphics. To create a line, hold down the left mouse button and drag the cursor over the desired letter or group of letters. When you release the mouse button, your line will have been created. The second thing you can do is use the Marquee tool. This tool allows you to select a specific letter or group of letters and then press the marquee key (or right-click on an empty space and choose Marquee). When you press the marquee key, Illustrator will create a box that will contain all of the selected letters or groups of letters. If you want to select more than one letter or group of letters at a time, hold down Shift and click on one of the keys on your keyboard (or use your arrow keys). The third thing you can do is use the Selection tool. This tool allows you to select individual letters or groups of letters and then press Ctrl+S (or right-click on an empty space and choose Selection). When you press Ctrl+S, Illustrator will copy all of the selected text into a new document called “Selection.” Finally, if you want to remove all of the text from a selection, hold down Option and click on one of the keys on your keyboard (or use your arrow keys).
