If your Polaris Ranger has a check engine light, it’s time to reset it. This is a simple process that can fix many problems on these machines.

  1. Open the hood of your machine and remove the battery cover.
  2. Remove the spark plugs from the engine and set them aside.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the machine and remove it if there is one (if not, connect it back).
  4. Remove the timing belt from your machine and set it aside if there is one (if not, replace it).
  5. Remove any screws that hold down the air cleaner cover on your machine (if there are any). If everything else is still in place, don’t worry - you’ll just need to pop off some screws to get at these things later on!
  6. Pry off any adhesive that may be holding down the check engine light switch on your machine (or use a screwdriver if you’re lucky!). You’ll now have access to the light itself!
  7. Replace or reset the check engine light as follows: 1) Push down on one end of the switch until you feel a pop; 2) Hold onto both ends of the switch and twist until you hear a “snap” sound; 3) Place new spark plugs into each cylinder; 4) Twist clockwise until everything feels tight; 5) Twist counter-clockwise until everything feels loose again; 6) Reattach air cleaner cover and screws if needed; 7) Put all pieces back together and enjoy your new check engine light!
