If your Polaris Ranger has a check engine light, it’s time to reset it. This is a simple process that can fix many problems on these machines.
- Open the hood of your machine and remove the battery cover.
- Remove the spark plugs from the engine and set them aside.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable from the machine and remove it if there is one (if not, connect it back).
- Remove the timing belt from your machine and set it aside if there is one (if not, replace it).
- Remove any screws that hold down the air cleaner cover on your machine (if there are any). If everything else is still in place, don’t worry - you’ll just need to pop off some screws to get at these things later on!
- Pry off any adhesive that may be holding down the check engine light switch on your machine (or use a screwdriver if you’re lucky!). You’ll now have access to the light itself!
- Replace or reset the check engine light as follows: 1) Push down on one end of the switch until you feel a pop; 2) Hold onto both ends of the switch and twist until you hear a “snap” sound; 3) Place new spark plugs into each cylinder; 4) Twist clockwise until everything feels tight; 5) Twist counter-clockwise until everything feels loose again; 6) Reattach air cleaner cover and screws if needed; 7) Put all pieces back together and enjoy your new check engine light!
