If you have a Mega account, there are a few things you can do to help protect your account and keep it active.
- Make sure your password is strong and unique.
- Keep your account activity limited to official channels and services.
- Use two-factor authentication for added security.
- Monitor your account activity and report any suspicious or unauthorized behavior to our customer service team.
Please note that we are not able to help with password recovery. If you cannot remember the email address used for your account, please contact us at [email protected] and provide as much information as possible so that we may assist you further. Email addresses from old accounts should only be used for recovering a new Mega account if the user agrees to it by using their prior email address when creating a new user profile on mega.nz.
Please note that for a public-facing site, it is impossible to ensure 100% account security. Users may lose their password or have them stolen by third parties due to malware or phishing attacks. Therefore if you lose access to your Mega account, we’re sorry but there’s no way of recovering it – the information stored on our servers cannot be retrieved automatically and manually checking each account would take years. Please use a Strong Password and rate limit login attempts to prevent this from happening in the future. You can also enable two-factor authentication (available on all paid subscriptions) which will greatly strengthen the security of your account against remote attacks and phishing/social engineering attempts. We recommend setting up 2FA immediately after accessing your Mega account again.
Your files are safely stored on our database, never touched or distributed by our servers. If you’re looking for a specific file with an ID (#12345) and can’t find it, don’t worry – we have not deleted any of your content! You will have access to every file you ever uploaded in the past (even those that were removed from your account). While mega.nz does not currently allow indexing of individual files, such as search engines, this may be possible in the future on request if enough users are interested in it. For now though, you’ll need to download all files you want using the download links available in your Mega profile page.
1.Change your password to a new one and make sure there’s no your e-mail address or phone number on it in any way. We recommend using this tool for creating strong passwords (https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm). 2 Upload an identification document to https://mega.nz/#newidentification 3 Log out from all sessions if you are logged into MEGA with the same credentials from other devices 4 Make sure no one else knows the answers to your security questions 5 Contact our support team via ticket system and confirm that you own the identified email address To change recovery email or deletion of the account with the old email address, please contact support. Delete your account via Control Panel .
MEGA uses multiple methods of client-side encryption to protect user files from unauthorized access – even within our infrastructure. This means that if someone gains access to our servers, they will not be able to see the content of your files or find out which other users you correspond with – making it far more difficult for hackers and spies to attack the service. Files on your device are encrypted locally using a secret key derived from your password and a random number.
