If you’re a Mac user, you know how to open UNIX executable files. But what if you want to open them on a Windows computer? Here’s how:

  1. Open the command prompt and type “uname -a” to get the system’s current operating system information.
  2. Type “cmd” and hit return to start the command prompt.
  3. Type “xargs -I /usr/bin/uname -a | grep ‘^Apple’ | cut -d’ ’ -f 1” to get a list of all UNIX executable files in your PATH environment variable.
  4. Type “xcopy /usr/bin/uname -a $PATH/*” to copy all of the UNIX executable files in your PATH environment variable into your clipboard so that they can be opened on a Windows computer using the same program or shell script that you use for opening UNIX executable files on a Mac computer.
