What can I do with Nintendo eShop?
By purchasing digital software through the Nintendo eShop, you can use many of your favorite applications on your Nintendo 3DS system. You will be able to purchase packaged software and download it directly to your system for a one-time cost.
How much does software cost in the Nintendo eShop?
Software available in the Nintendo eShop is similar to that of retail stores. The price shown is for the full version of the game or application offered in the Software Store. In addition, there may be cases when multiple versions are sold depending on what device(s) you wish to play on (for example, a “New Nintendo 3DS” version and a “Nintendo 3DS” version).
There is no age restriction on Nintendo eShop for purchasing software. However, some games may require you to input your birth date before you can play them (for example, M-rated titles). For these titles, a parental control PIN code will be required as well. You do not have to provide your personal information in order to make purchases.* Your personal information is used only for identification purposes and for fulfilling purchases made with a credit or debit card. Since this information is encrypted when sent over the Internet during the purchase process, it cannot be read by others even if they intercept it. A credit card is needed as a means of identification when purchasing digital content.
Nintendo eShop Cards and Nintendo Points Cards are prepaid cards that you can purchase at retail stores which allow you to make purchases in the Nintendo eShop on your Nintendo 3DS system or Wii U console. Both types of cards can only be redeemed in the country or region where they were purchased, so we recommend that you buy them at retailers within your area if possible. The value corresponding to the card number will automatically be added to your account, allowing you to immediately begin making purchases after entering your password. For more information about how each type of card works, please visit the support site for your region.
Please be aware that a Nintendo eShop Card is different from a membership card. In order to make purchases in the Nintendo eShop, you will need both types of cards (a Nintendo eShop Card and a membership card). For more information about how each type of card works, please visit the support site for your region.
Will I be able to download demos?
Currently we have no plans to add demos to our digital software lineup. For now, we ask that you play any game demos available outside of Nintendo eShop by visiting local retailers or third-party websites. However, you will be able to purchase downloadable content (DLC) from within games that already have been released.
How much data will I need for the Nintendo eShop? What if I don’t have enough room on my SD Card, can I delete it later? Will my purchases automatically download when I bring my Nintendo 3DS system online or do I need to make an additional purchase to download games that were pre-purchased?
You can access the Nintendo eShop whenever you like without needing an Internet connection. However, some features of the Nintendo eShop may require a connection (for example, downloading updates for your software). You will only need to connect once when making purchases in the future. You can access the Nintendo eShop from multiple Nintendo 3DS systems by saving your information to a SD Card or by creating an account on the website and logging in to it using your Nintendo Network ID. When you log in, all of your software (purchased or pre-purchased) will be available to download, even if you are not currently playing it.
You can create a free user profile any time: Just select “Sign Up” at the top of any page on our website and follow the instructions. Then enter your name, country/region, date of birth, and email address. If you don’t already have one, create a Nintendo eShop account as well: Click “Create Account” under the Register tab in the top right of any page on our website.
What if I don’t live in Japan? Can I use my Japanese Wii U or Nintendo 3DS system to shop in the eShop? Can I transfer data from my Japanese Wii U to another region’s Wii U? Will this affect future digital purchases made using.
