Xbox gamertags can be deleted by following these steps:
- Log in to your Xbox account and click on the “Profile” button.
- Scroll down to the bottom and select “Delete Gamertag.”
- Click on the “Delete” button and confirm your deletion by clicking on the “Confirm” button.
If you delete a gamertag, all game progress data collected by that account will be deleted as well. All items purchased by this account will also be removed from the “Ready to Install” list on your console (and may require repair or replacement). These include content such as demos, movies, game add-ons, and downloadable content. You will need: An Xbox Live gamertag You can only delete your primary gamertag. If you want to change the email address for a secondary account or delete all of your accounts, this must be done through [email protected] with a different method of contact than used for the main account.
Here are the steps:
1)Go into the Xbox 360 dashboard or Xbox One dashboard (whichever one you play on)
2)Under ‘Settings’ , select ‘Account’, ‘Contact Xbox Support’, then ‘Delete account’.
Confirm with ‘Yes’ . Then you have to follow the steps in order to get your Gamertag removed.

By following the steps it will be removed in 14 days. After you have deleted your account, go to ‘My Games and Apps’ . When you are there, scroll all the way down until you see this: (That’s my Gamerpic as I deleted my Xbox gamertag.) The box on the right is where your Xbox gamertag used to be. When you click on the Gamerpic it will prompt you to change your Gamerpic without having an Xbox Account linked to it.
