If your Playstation 2 is starting to give you trouble, it might be time to take it in for a cleaning. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Remove the power cord and the disc drive.
  2. Remove the screws that hold the top cover in place.
  3. Lift off the top cover.
  4. Locate and remove the dust cover from the optical drive (if present).
  5. Remove any old cleaning materials or debris from around the disk drive and optical drive read head area using a vacuum cleaner with a crevice tool attachment, a brush attachment, or your fingers. Be sure to clean all of the surrounding areas as well, including behind and below the read head area on both sides of the disk drive (see Figure 1).   6. Replace any missing or damaged parts, then reattach the top cover and screws (see Figure 2).
  7. Replace power cord and disc drive, then turn on your Playstation 2 and test for errors before returning it to normal use! ..
