If your car has a PCV valve, it’s important to clean it regularly. A clogged PCV valve can cause your car to overheat, and in some cases, even catch on fire. Here’s how to clean a PCV valve:

  1. Remove the cap on the end of the PCV valve.
  2. Pour a small amount of gasoline into the engine bay and light it with a match or lighter. The gas will heat up and start to evaporate, which will loosen any debris that’s built up on the valves.
  3. Hold the end of the PCV valve close to the flame and wait until it starts to smoke. Then, quickly pour a stream of water into the engine bay and turn off the ignition. The water will douse any flames that may have started from the gas leaking into the engine bay.
  4. Use a shop vacuum cleaner to suck up any debris that was loosened by the gasoline fumes. Be sure to use caution when working with hot engines; wear gloves and eye protection if necessary. ..
