If you’re an Android user, there’s a good chance you’ve received an update notification in the past few days. But if you don’t want to install the update, there are a few ways to cancel it.
- Open the Settings app and select “About phone.” On the next screen, scroll down and tap “Build number.” If you’ve never done this before, enter 7 into the text field and hit OK. This will create a temporary password for your phone that you can use to cancel updates later on.
- Go to Google Play and sign in with your account information (username, password). Click on " Updates." In the left sidebar, select “Uninstall updates” and then click on the three lines in the top row that say “Cancel update.”
- Type your temporary password into Google Play’s Update history tool (instructions below). After updating your phone, go back to Updates and uninstall any of the updates that were installed by canceling their installation.
