Niantic, the developer of the popular augmented reality game “Pokemon GO,” has come under fire in recent weeks for what some players allege is a practice of deleting inactive accounts. The controversy began when Reddit user u/Gym_Master_Guy posted a thread asking fellow players whether or not Niantic had been deleting inactive accounts. The post has since been upvoted more than 10,000 times and received more than 1,000 comments. “I’ve been playing Pokemon GO since it came out and I’ve never had an issue with inactivity until now,” wrote u/Gym_Master_Guy. “Since the new update, my account has been deleted without any warning or explanation.” Niantic has yet to respond to requests for comment on the matter. However, in a blog post published earlier this year, the company outlined its policy on account deletion. According to Niantic, inactive accounts will be deleted after six months if they have not interacted with the game in that time period; after two years if they have not interacted with the game within that time period but have not reached Level 20; and after three years if they have not interacted with the game within that time period and have not reached Level 30. ..
